ECRI Institute (www.ecri.org) is a nonprofit healthcare research organization. Our mission is to enable healthcare providers to improve patient care. For 40 years we have dedicated ourselves to this mission, bringing the discipline of scientific research and the integrity of independence to discover which approaches to patient care work best. Recognized by the healthcare community worldwide as a trusted source of highly credible information, ECRI Institute is designated as an Evidence-based Practice Center by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and as a Collaborating Center of the World Health Organization for Patient Safety, Risk Management, and Health Technology Assessment. ECRI Institute's work is distinguished by its independence, intellectual rigor, and strict conflict-of-interest policy. We have the most strictly enforced conflict-of-interest rules in the field of healthcare research. The organization and its 300 multidisciplinary staff do not accept grants, gifts, projects, or consulting fees from medical device or pharmaceutical companies, nor do employees or the organization own stock in such companies. To ensure adherence to this policy, a careful auditing process examines each employee's federal income tax return after filing each year. ECRI Institute also does not accept advertising and does not permit use of its name or its work in advertising or promotion by medical device or pharmaceutical companies. The collective expertise at ECRI Institute derives from its multidisciplinary staff of clinical engineers, medical technologists, doctoral level life scientists, epidemiologists, patient safety experts, occupational health safety experts, attorneys, healthcare risk managers, physicians, nurses, psychologists, medical library scientists, clinical writers and editors, and health systems consultants. |
